Best tutorial I have ever seen

The sound effects are a very nice touch!

This is also the first tutorial I have ever learned anything from.

For quality settings, the property (not a function!) is _quality,
and can be set to "LOW", "MEDIUM", "HIGH", and "BEST".

For example: _root._quality = "LOW";
and just put that in a on(release) or whatever for a button and tadaa!!

Helbereth responds:

Well thanks. I included a sound test if you wanna hear them all.

I spent like 2 hours before submitting this just trying to find a tutorial on making quality buttons. I finally decided I could add them later, and I've already gotten 2 responses pertaining to that particular question. I'll do a new version sometime soon... I need to get away from flash for a while...

aaaahhh the sound!!!

The sound is really shriekingly shrieky.

Otherwise the tutorial is done very well, and I hope it ups the level of sprite movies that are out there.

Way too basic

Most who have ever touched art know basic perspectives.

There are other cool perspective things that you haven't covered, for example scenery with more than 2 vantage points. You could also cover how some cartoons draw curved perspectives that still look good by modifying the basic vantage lines etc.

Put more thought into this.

very nice concept... a few problems here n there

I like the concept of controlling a bouncing ball and steering it through courses, but I think some of the level-design could be improved to be more exciting and interactive.

Also, there are plenty of bugs to go around. The mph variable at the top right isn't read as a variable for example, or some of the hit-test areas are a bit off.

It's a very promising game, and if you debug and improve on it, it would be even more fun.

Also as an addition, it would be cool to see 'particles' like leaves and such in the background reflect the force of the wind. i.e the wind is blowing to the right, and particles are flying to the right.

Keep up the good work.

Very nice game!

It's a really nice game with an extremely well done physics engine. There are a few complaints however, like how the red target area keep staying *above* the ball, so whenever the ball is 'close' to it it covers the ball up.

The game is also so fricken difficult haha!

Keep up the good job!

i know i tried to fix it but could not...

very cool AS scripting

that's some hefty AS scripting!!
I've just started to look at Flash MX (started a few days ago) and have tried to figure out how to mix graphics with the script... could you upload this somewhere so people can download it? :D

Ooh, I'm even surprised this passed the portal... most people here aren't really interested in programming and such and more into animation, humour, blood and gore.

haha that's awesome!

It'd be cool if you could divide them into different categories instead of just lump them together.

Sounds are excellently crisp. Kudos!

Also like the SILENCE! button.

sloppy work

You obviously know what you're doing, seeing that you've used guidelines and whatnot...

the thing is, you don't really follow your guidelines and despite having them, your drawings turn out to be unproportional. practice more to get the details right. It seems like you're completely aware that you're not paying attention to getting the details right and just using them to get the point across. In my opinion a well-done tutorial should focus on the graphics of what it's trying to teach (it's a tutorial - a teaching tool - you don't want to teach sloppy work).

I like how you did the smaller stuff though like eyes and mouths etc.

Also don't draw on the computer unless you have a Wacom tablet. Drawing on the computer is bad for your wrist *and* the results are generally half-presentable. Kudos on the music though.

oh my fucking god. you truely have nothing better to do dont you.READ THE FIGGING TEXT!!!
